Keeping Children Safe

St Andrew's CE Primary School is committed to the safeguarding of all pupils.

We have a culture of keeping ALL our children safe and we work hard with families to offer support to allow our children to flourish.

St Andrew's School takes its responsibility to protect and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in its care very seriously.

“The welfare of the child is paramount” (the Children Act 1989).

Section 175 of the Education Act 2002 (Section 157 for Independent schools) places a statutory responsibility on the governing body to have policies and procedures in place that safeguard and promote the welfare of children who are pupils in the school.

Our first and foremost priority is to keep your child safe and healthy; there are safeguarding notices around our school to remind staff and visitors of our policies and practices with the key message that: “Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, every day”. Under the Ofsted framework, safeguarding is a key indicator of what constitutes a good school.

Reporting Concerns

  • Children know that they can approach any of the adults in school if they are worried and that they will receive a consistent supportive response.

The Designated Senior Lead (DSL) with responsibility in school for Child Protection is Mr Simon France. The Deputy DSLs are Mrs Laura Lombard and Mrs Amy Belcher.

If you have any concerns about the well-being or welfare of children please speak to the office. They will find a safeguarding lead to speak with you. Alternatively, do not hesitate to contact any of the above in person, or you can phone or email. We work closely with the Chesil locality team to offer support and we can help families find support for a range of issues

  • Families and members of the public can also contact the Children’s Advice and Duty Service (CHaD) on 01305 228866
