General Information

Emergency Contact Information

Please ensure that your contact details are correct and that the school is told about any health matters, especially allergies relating to your child.

We must have at least two people as emergency contacts, preferably three.

First Aid

Basic first aid is given at school when necessary by qualified First Aiders.

If an accident needs hospital attention we will make every effort to contact you first. Please ensure all contact details are kept up-to-date so that we can contact you in an emergency.

Medicines

The school has responsibility for the safety and welfare of pupils and regularly reviews arrangements to ensure that the medical needs of the pupils are met at school.

There may be times when children attending school need to take medication. If the medication needs to be administered in school, it must be brought to the school office by an adult, not the child.

These medicines must be in the original bottle/ packaging in which prescribed clearly labelled with the pupil’s name, contents, dosage and date.

Parents will be asked to complete a written request for the school to administer medication.

Milk

Milk is the ideal mid-morning drink for your child and for those under 5 it’s absolutely free!

We offer milk every morning through Cool Milk.
Registering is easy via https://www.coolmilk.com/parents/

We also provide free milk for any child in receipt of the pupil premium funding –please ask for further details!

Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is additional funding paid to schools in respect of their disadvantaged pupils (pupils who have been registered for free schools meals (FSM) at any point in the last six years or are looked after continuously by the local authority for more than six months).

Schools receive this funding to support their eligible pupils to have an equitable experience at school and narrow the attainment gap between them and their peers. At St Andrew’s eligible families have access to vouchers to support buying school uniform for £25, have school trips subsidised and can apply for free access to breakfast club.

The school also uses this funding to support quality education for the children and ensure that children experience a range of enrichment activities whilst at school. It also supports the pastoral and welfare support available to children and families.

If you think you are eligible you can apply here https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/education-and-training/schools-andlearning/at-school/free-school-meals

Sun Protection

During the warm summer months all children should have a named sun hat in school which they will be encouraged to wear
when playing outside.

School staff are not permitted to apply sun cream to children, but we would ask that you apply a long-lasting sunscreen before school in hot weather. Children may reapply their own sun cream which must be provided in a clearly named container.

Please check sun cream does not contain nuts if coming into school.

Transport

There is travel by bus for children living in Poxwell and Osmington organised by DCC. Registers are kept of children
using this transport so parents are asked for written notification for changes in the normal arrangement. Children from
other areas are not insured to travel on the bus.

As part of our School Travel Plan, developed in conjunction with the Local Authority, children are encouraged to walk or
cycle to school. Several cycle stores are available for bicycles and scooters to be left during the school day.

In the interest of personal safety, parents are asked not to drive cars onto the school premises. Parents are requested
to park off-site and walk to school.

Parking within the school grounds should be available for priority users, disabled badge holders and school transport.

Parents are asked not to block access to the staff car park, Mulberry Bush or on the yellow lines.

Water

Please can you ensure your child has a named water bottle in school each day.

They are able to have drinks at times throughout the day as well as breaks and lunchtime.
