Keeping Children Safe Facebook TwitterFriday Maths 22nd January
We are going to take a break from the multiplication methods and there are some PurpleMash activities and assignments on Mathletics, including a challenge activity
Mainly the Mash activities are games practising a variety of skills. If you feel you need more time with multiplying large numbers, there is an optional activity for this too.
Monday 18th to Friday 22nd January
This week you are going to continue to develop your written column multiplication methods up to 4 digits x 2 digits.
Does it matter where you put the carry digit?
You can revisit Wednesday's method:
Column Multiplication - 3 digit by 2 digit - Bing video
Or move onto 4 digits by 2 digits.
You could try this instead of White Rose:
Remember, a common error is to forget to multiply each digit by every other digit, so for:
243 x 35 - you will need to make sure you have done these 6 'mini' multiplications and added them all together in your area method -
5 x 3
5 x 40
5 x 200
30 x 3
30 x 40
30 x 200
or have these 2 rows in your column method:
5 x 243
30 x 243
Remember to view other children's methods below to help you.
