If attendance is an issue for your child, St. Andrew's Family Support and Attendance Officer is here to help.
Who Am I?
My name is Claire Alison, I am a single mum to a lovely 22 year old, and a carer for my own mum. I also have a puppy called Topsy Wiffle Waffle! I started working here at St. Andrews in March 2019, and I absolutely love my job. I remember saying at my interview that I just wanted a job where I could look after people all day, and that's exactly what I do! In the past I have worked in Social Services (first in the Fostering Team and then in the Youth Offending Team) and in secondary education, and I have also been a foster carer.
What Do I Do?
My role as Family Support and Attendance Officer is extremely varied! Sometimes I spend a whole day meeting with families, either in school or visiting them at home. I meet with our families and carers for all sorts of reasons, which include discussing parenting strategies, looking at specific issues that are impacting on the family and finding ways to help, or simply touching base to ensure everyone knows they have our support. At other times I meet with the children for a chat or a play session, if that's what we think they need. I monitor our whole school attendance and individual attendance records, looking out for signs of early issues and working with the children, teachers and parents to try to solve problems early on or to prevent things from getting worse. I am responsible for our Attendance newsletters and our Attendance page on the school website, so if you can think of anything you'd like to see added, please let me know!
